Background Story
Law enforcement authorities have pledged to capture the culprit responsible for the tragic end of a mother-of-two who fell victim to a sexually-motivated assault four decades ago.
Shelley Morgan, at the age of 33, was fatally stabbed in a frenzied episode after dropping her two children off at school in Bristol on June 11, 1984.
On that fateful day, Shelley had set out towards Leigh Woods near Ashton Court, where her plan was to spend the day indulging in sketching and photography.
Tragically, she never reached her destination. Concerns arose when she didn’t arrive to collect her children from school or return to her residence in Bedminster.
It wasn’t until four months later on October 14th, that children playing in a nearby wooded area in Backwell Hill accidentally stumbled upon her remains.
Following a post-mortem examination, it was determined that Mrs. Morgan, who was married, had endured multiple stab wounds, and there were indications that the attack carried a sexual motive.
Law enforcement authorities initiated a homicide investigation, yet despite multiple reviews of the case, the perpetrator remains unidentified.
Current Progress and Appeal
The suspect is believed to have been acquainted with the Leigh Woods and Backwell regions. Police suggest they may have ties to these areas, whether through employment or other connections.
Officials are once again urging individuals to come forward with any details pertaining to the case, in the hopes of finally cracking this unsolved mystery.
Commenting on the matter, Detective Inspector Dave Marchant affirmed, “We are resolute in our commitment to unveiling the individual responsible for Shelley’s slaying and for depriving her two young children of their mother.
“Although four decades have passed, our determination remains unwavering, as we strive to provide her family with closure and, if the perpetrator is still at large, to bring them to justice.”
Appeal for Information and Collaboration
Law enforcement officials highlighted the uncertainty surrounding whether Mrs. Morgan reached Leigh Woods and emphasized that her clothing and camera, a 35mm Olympus OM20, have never been retrieved.
Individuals in possession of a similar camera from the 1980s bearing serial number 1032853 are encouraged to contact the authorities, as this could provide vital assistance to the investigation.
At the time of her disappearance, Mrs. Morgan was described as wearing “a scarlet-colored top, a white skirt, maroon tights, and large red circular glasses,” while carrying a homemade patchwork bag.
