Glastonbury Festival Organiser Plans for Fallow Year in 2026
The renowned Glastonbury Festival is expected to take a break in 2026 to allow the land to recover, as stated by organiser Emily Eavis.
Located at Worthy Farm in Somerset, the festival typically occurs four out of every five years, with the fifth year designated for land restoration.
Land Regeneration and Cow Welfare
Speaking on the Sidetracked podcast by the BBC, Emily Eavis mentioned that the fallow year would provide an opportunity for everyone to relax and allow the cows on the Somerset farm to roam freely and reclaim their territory.
While the last official fallow year was in 2018, the festival was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to enforced breaks.
App Launch for Enhanced Festival Experience
In other news, an app is set to be introduced to assist festival attendees in locating their friends and tents with ease.
The app will feature a map of the 1,000-acre grounds, enabling users to mark their tents, parking spots, and designated meeting points for gathering before performances.
Additionally, the app will recommend a personalized top 10 list of performing artists based on the user’s Spotify profile.
Future Line-ups and Ethos
When asked about the 2025 line-up, Emily Eavis, daughter of festival founder Sir Michael Eavis, expressed that while plans were in progress, nothing was finalized yet. She hinted at a potential fallow year following the next event.
According to Emily, the fallow year is crucial for land rejuvenation and allowing everyone to recharge. She emphasized the importance of not focusing solely on profit, especially during times when it may seem lucrative.
Artist Performances and Special Moments
This year’s Glastonbury Festival will feature headline acts such as Dua Lipa, SZA, and Coldplay on the iconic Pyramid stage.
In a poignant gesture, performance artist Marina Abramovic will grace the main stage, calling for peace with a brief moment of silence – an event anticipated to be emotionally moving.
