A chilling surveillance video captures a predator pursuing a schoolgirl before assaulting her in broad daylight as authorities encourage other victims to step forward.
Irtiza Abbas, aged 25, was sentenced to two years in prison after confessing to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and a 22-year-old female college student in Birmingham.
Abbas committed his first assault on January 16 near Aston University, targeting the 22-year-old woman along Dartmouth Middleway after ensuring she was alone before carrying out the assault.
After fleeing the initial scene, Abbas struck again on April 16 by tailing a schoolgirl in Perry Barr.
Security footage shows him shadowing her closely along a street, looking around to confirm he was alone before assaulting her.
The frightened teenager called her father, who was nearby. Upon locating Abbas, the father confronted him, but Abbas managed to escape following a scuffle, fleeing the scene.
The father’s dashcam footage depicted Abbas running down a residential street.
West Midlands Police initiated a search, meticulously linking the assaults through CCTV footage, leading to Abbas’s identification.
Authorities apprehended him at his residence on Lozells Road, Birmingham, on April 22, discovering attire matching that worn during the attacks.
Initially denying the charges, Abbas eventually pleaded guilty during his appearance at Birmingham Crown Court.
He was sentenced to two years in prison last Friday (7/6), but law enforcement is concerned he may have assailed other women and girls who have not yet reported their incidents.
Detective Inspector Joe Davenport stated, “We highly suspect Abbas may have committed more offenses due to the nature of the crimes.
‘CCTV footage indicates his presence on the streets, methodically selecting his victims.
‘He would track them to ensure they were solitary before attacking them.
‘Although he has confessed to two offenses, there is a substantial timeline gap, and we strongly suspect he may have reoffended.
‘Thanks to the victims’ support, bravery, and our team’s tireless efforts in analyzing every bit of CCTV footage available, we have succeeded in removing a serial offender and potentially dangerous individual, whose offenses were deliberate, methodical, and recurrent, from the streets of Birmingham.
‘If anyone believes they have experienced something similar but has not come forward previously, we urge them to reconsider.
‘Please reach out to me or one of my colleagues, and we assure you that your account will be handled with utmost seriousness.’
