Oil Spillage Causes Commuter Chaos
A considerable 10-mile oil spill is currently leading to delays as a service station on the M25 has been compelled to shut down temporarily.
Closure Details
The A24 route from Beare Green to Leatherhead in Surrey has been closed off in the northbound direction due to the spillage.
The oil has spread along the A24 route and has also affected junction nine of the M25.
Impact on Cobham Services
Those planning to make a stop at Cobham Services on the M25 today will be disappointed as it will remain closed for several hours to allow specialized environmental crews to conduct cleaning operations.
Official Statements and Traffic Updates
The monitoring site Inrix reported, “A truck leaked oil along the entire section from Beare Green to Leatherhead and then onto the M25 at J9.”
Current data from Google confirms the closure of A24 for 10 miles northbound with traffic expected to intensify in the vicinity.
Police Advisory and Service Closure Updates
Surrey Police has urged drivers to avoid the affected area and indicated that road closures will remain in place due to the significant fuel spillage.
Ross Mendenhall, Operations Director at Extra MSA managing Cobham Services, mentioned that a tanker with a leaking fuel tank led to the spillage, requiring extensive cleanup operations.
Local Traffic Diversions
Multiple road closures are contributing to heavy congestion in and around Dorking, affecting various routes including A246 Young Street, A29 Bognor Road, and A25 Reigate Road.
