Anger flares among victims of an inmate at HMP Wandsworth for reportedly escaping a police inquiry if found guilty of alleged wrongdoing.
Linton Weirich, aged 36, was captured on a clandestine smartphone allegedly engaging in sexual activity with prison officer Linda De Sousa Abreu at HMP Wandsworth.
De Sousa Abreu, aged 30, has been formally accused of misconduct in public office and appeared before court earlier this week following the circulation of the incriminating video on social media recently.
Weirich, who purportedly has a pregnant partner eagerly awaiting his return, is presently serving a sentence of four years and nine months for burglary and theft after looting £65,000 worth of valuables from a safe in a flat in Kensington, central London.
Despite being isolated from the general prison population, Weirich is unlikely to endure further penalties and is not under police scrutiny, as indicated by a report by MailOnline, incensing the multiple victims of the prolific burglar.
Expressing their discontent, one victim who fell prey to Weirich’s burglary in January stated, ‘I was aware of the video. I just didn’t realize he was our thief. The entire situation feels surreal. This is not what we envisioned as a consequence of serving time in prison.’
Weirich broke into the premises of another victim while renovations were ongoing, stealing some tools before ultimately being apprehended.
Law enforcement managed to nab him due to the ankle monitor he was wearing at the time, prompting the victim to comment, ‘I don’t think he’s the brightest bulb in the box.’
Another victim, whose bicycle was stolen by Weirich in December, remarked to The Sun, ‘He’s definitely not the sharpest cookie if he was simply targeting all the people in his vicinity.’
‘I can see why the police managed to apprehend him. However, it hardly seems like justice if he’s enjoying himself in prison,’ added the same victim.
De Sousa Abreu, a married individual said to be involved in swinging activities, was taken into custody at Heathrow Airport prior to boarding a flight to visit relatives in Madrid, as confirmed by Uxbridge magistrates court, where her intended use of a Portuguese passport was impeded by the Metropolitan Police.
Nevertheless, De Sousa Abreu’s solicitor, Gayathri Yogarajah, argued that her client had informed HMP Wandsworth about her travel arrangements, which were duly relayed to Scotland Yard.
She has been granted provisional bail and is scheduled to appear for a plea and case management hearing on July 29 at Isleworth crown court.
