The Continuation of the Investigation into Jay Slater’s Disappearance Affirmed by Tenerife Mayor
The mayor of Tenerife has emphasized that the police are actively pursuing various leads in the investigation and has defended the decision to cease the search for the missing British teenager, Jay Slater.
Emilio Navarro, the local Mayor, informed Sky News that the Civil Guard is exploring multiple avenues in this case. He clarified, “The search has not come to a halt. It may have ceased in the physical terrain, but other investigative leads are being pursued.”
While the Civil Guard concluded their search in the mountainous region in northern Tenerife where Jay was last sighted, less than two weeks had passed since the teenager was reported missing.

Defense of the Decision
The focus of the search for Jay had been the Rural de Teno national park, where he had traveled with two British companions after a night out. His phone was last traced to the area on the following morning, Monday, June 17, when he informed a friend about his dwindling phone battery.
Mr. Navarro, who holds the position of mayor in Santiago Del Teide, supported the police against criticisms that the search was terminated prematurely. He commended the Civil Guard for their commendable efforts, stating, “Considerable resources were dedicated to the search until last week.”
Dismissing Conspiracy Theories
Mr. Navarro also refuted claims that online conspiracy theories had hindered the search for the missing teen from Lancashire. He asserted, “I have complete faith in the professionalism of the Civil Guard in this matter. They are diligently following the investigation based on accurate and verified information.”
Despite the active search being concluded, Jay’s family, who have traveled to Tenerife, intend to stay and await the next steps authorities plan to take. The Civil Guard has shared minimal insights regarding their ongoing inquiries.

It has been confirmed that the two British individuals with whom Jay stayed the night before his disappearance are not pertinent to the investigation. Meanwhile, British climber and social media influencer, Paul Arnott, resumed his search in the mountainous region on Monday, pledging to persist despite referring to the final police search as a “PR stunt.” Nonetheless, the authorities have stressed that the investigation into Jay’s disappearance remains ongoing.
