Man Captured After 27 Years on the Lam Faces Additional Charges for Child Sexual Abuse in the UK
Following more than two decades on the lam, Richard Burrows, now in custody, is confronted with fresh allegations of child sexual abuse.
Richard Burrows, aged 80, was apprehended at Heathrow Airport when he arrived from Thailand in March, after being on the run since December 1997, when he failed to attend a trial at Chester Crown Court.
His evasion from appearing in court elevated him to one of the most sought-after fugitives in the UK for the following twenty years.
Initially accused of two counts of buggery and 11 counts of indecent assault regarding incidents purported to have occurred at a children’s facility in Congleton, Cheshire, between 1969 and 1971, and in the West Midlands between 1971 and 1981.
The Crown Prosecution Service has now endorsed a further 27 accusations against him, as stated by Cheshire Police.
These latest charges involve 20 counts of indecent assault, one count of buggery, three counts of producing indecent images of minors, and four counts of holding a counterfeit identity document with malicious intent.
The added charges pertain to 11 individuals, with the alleged crimes taking place between 1966 and 1996 across areas in Cheshire, the West Midlands, and West Mercia.
Burrows is set to make his next court appearance at Chester Crown Court on August 2 this year.
