Jack Fincham, the victor of Love Island, has been granted bail while awaiting an appeal—just hours following his imprisonment due to an incident involving his Cane Corso dog attacking a man who was jogging.
The 32-year-old admitted guilt at Southend Magistrates’ Court to two charges of being responsible for a dangerously uncontrolled dog, with one occurrence resulting in injury.
In addition to receiving a six-week prison sentence, he was instructed to pay £3,680 overall, which included £2,000 for kenneling expenses, a fine of £961, and £200 in restitution.
However, it came to light after his sentencing at court on Wednesday that he had successfully filed an appeal and was subsequently granted conditional bail.
Fincham’s attorney informed Sky News that District Judge Williams reviewed the bail request in an open court setting.
After the verdict was revealed, Fincham raised his thumb in affirmation while being escorted to the cells, as a woman in the audience wept.
The court was informed that his dog Elvis had bitten a runner in his hometown of Swanley, Kent, in September 2022.
Initially, Fincham was going to receive a caution and participate in a responsible dog ownership program after the victim accepted his apology, prosecutor Erin Peck stated. Certain conditions had been stipulated, including the requirement for his dog to be muzzled.
Nevertheless, another incident occurred in June last year in Grays, Essex, where the dog was again out of control, leading to Fincham’s later charges.
Presiding magistrate Anne Wade noted during sentencing that Fincham was already under a suspended sentence order at the time of the Swanley incident. This entailed 12 weeks of custody, suspended for 18 months due to a separate driving issue.
Ms. Wade indicated that this order would be partially activated, resulting in the six-week jail term being imposed.
“The dog was in a public area failing to adhere to the conditions of being muzzled and kept on a lead,” she remarked.
Richard Cooper, acting on Fincham’s behalf, mentioned that the defendant had “no savings” to cover the £3,680 payment.
Ms. Wade noted that payments could be made in instalments, with an initial amount of £400 each month.
She mandated that the dog must remain muzzled in public spaces, be leashed, and not be left unattended with anyone under 16 years of age.
Fincham gained notoriety after clinching victory in the fourth season of Love Island with his then-partner Dani Dyer in 2018. The couple was a beloved pair throughout the show as they were coupled from the outset.
They announced their separation six months after they departed the show’s villa in Majorca.
