A nurse is battling for her life after being assaulted inside the emergency room of a Greater Manchester medical facility.
Royal Oldham Hospital was thrown into disarray when a man attacked one of the night shift nurses with a ‘sharp object,’ which was not a blade.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were alerted to the scene of the ‘serious’ occurrence shortly after 11.30pm last night.
According to the authorities, it is believed that a member of the public assailed a staff member.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, is still hospitalized for treatment of her ‘serious’ injuries, which are presumed to be ‘life-altering.’
A 37-year-old man was ‘quickly apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder,’ and the police are not searching for additional suspects. He remains in custody for interrogation.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters, from GMP’s Oldham division, stated: ‘This is a grave incident that has left a woman in a critical state.
‘Our thoughts are with her family and coworkers, and we will continue to assist them throughout this inquiry.
‘The local community can anticipate an increased police presence while we conduct our investigations, but they are also available to provide reassurance and answer any questions you may have.’
‘We understand that news of this nature will be shocking, and if you have any concerns or information to share, please connect with them.’
