A male has been detained on suspicion of attempted homicide after a vehicle was driven onto the sidewalk in central London during the early hours of Christmas Day.
Four individuals were transported to the hospital following the occurrence on Shaftesbury Avenue, with one reported to be in a critical state.
Metropolitan Police authorities were summoned to investigate reports of a collision and a car operating on the incorrect side of the road at 12:45 am.
According to a statement from the police, the event was confined and not linked to terrorism.
A perimeter has been established outside the Sondheim Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue, the venue for the London production of the musical Les Miserables. Shaftesbury Avenue is situated at the core of London‘s West End and the city’s theatrical district.
Evidence such as blood, a jacket, shoes, and a hat can be seen on the sidewalk within the designated area.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy stated that the police “reacted promptly” and apprehended a suspect “within moments”.
“It is believed the individual was engaged in a dispute at a nightclub before entering his vehicle and climbing onto the pavement,” he remarked.
Authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information regarding the incident to reach out.
