A canine caregiver has tragically lost his life following a collision with a vehicle in what is believed to be a hit-and-run incident in West Wales.
Authorities are currently in pursuit of the operator of a blue automobile that exhibited significant damage following the accident in the Carmarthenshire community of Llanpumsaint on Monday evening.
The incident occurred in proximity to Caersalem Baptist Chapel between 6:45 PM and 7:45 PM, as reported by Dyfed Powys Police.
The family of the deceased is receiving assistance from specialized officers during this difficult time.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle was traveling northward through Llanpumsaint when it collided with the dog walker.
‘Extremely heartbreaking news’
Local Councillor Bryan Davies, who serves the Cynwyl Elfed ward on Carmarthenshire County Council, expressed to Sky News that it was “extremely heartbreaking news.”
He noted that “all [the community’s] condolences” go out to the man’s family and emphasized that words “cannot adequately express” their feelings.
Cllr Davies remarked that Llanpumsaint, which is home to approximately 700 residents, is “a very tight-knit community.”
“This has been profoundly sorrowful. Everyone is feeling a deep sense of regret this morning regarding the situation and for this young family,” he elaborated.
“A wife and her two young children were anticipating Christmas Day and the arrival of Santa Claus overnight.”

Law enforcement is urging the driver involved, or any individuals with dashcam recordings of the event, to reach out.
The road is presently closed, and the police department states that it will likely remain shut for an extended period as they continue their inquiries.
