The United Kingdom is set to enjoy unexpectedly warm weather this Christmas.
The Met Office has predicted a “grey” rather than a white Christmas, featuring sunny intervals and “remarkably mild” temperatures.
Temperatures are anticipated to remain around 12-13C for much of the UK on Tuesday and throughout Christmas Day, approximately 5C above the norm for this season.
According to Met Office meteorologist Dan Stroud, there will be periods of sunshine accompanying the unseasonably warm winter weather.
“We anticipate some sunny intervals in the east, alongside significant cloud cover from the west,” he stated.
“Temperatures are set to rise dramatically, making it exceedingly mild on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
“In England and Wales, temperatures will be significantly above average, interspersed with some gloom.”
This follows a “perfect storm” of unfavorable weather conditions and road congestion that led to widespread chaos, with yellow warnings for wind issued until Sunday night.
The warnings affected Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and numerous regions of England.
Heathrow Airport saw the cancellation of approximately 100 flights on Sunday, and passengers were encouraged to verify their travel plans with their respective airlines.
