A soon-to-be mother has evaded incarceration after breaking into the residence of a romantic rival, striking her in the face, and shattering her front window with a child’s scooter.
Elisha Bayman, 28, believed that the other woman had been engaging in an affair with her long-term partner when she appeared outside the residence in December 2022.
The victim was in bed when she heard loud banging at her front door, so intense that she assumed it was the police, as revealed in court at Preston Crown.
She noticed her front door swing open and observed Bayman standing at the bottom of her staircase alongside her dog.
Prosecutor Sarah MacGill stated: ‘The defendant attempted to encourage the dog to ascend the stairs and attack the complainant, but the dog refused to comply.’
Instead, Bayman ascended the stairs, seized the woman by her hair, and punched her in the head, accusing her: ‘You’ve been sleeping with my partner.’
The woman’s 10-year-old daughter witnessed the event and began to cry. Bayman then suggested to the victim that they could have ‘a friendly discussion downstairs.’
The mother ushered her daughter back to her bedroom and dialed 999. Subsequently, Bayman exited the property and hurled a child’s scooter at the front window, leading to its shattering.
In a statement to the police, the victim expressed that she had experienced fear and distress following the violation and assault in her home.
She conveyed her concerns that Bayman might discover her address and warned, ‘next time it will be worse.’
Francesca Persaud, representing Bayman, explained that her client had been navigating ‘an exceptionally challenging and traumatic period’ due to the collapse of her nine-year relationship.
Ms Persaud remarked: ‘In her state of anxiety and emotional distress, she acted in a completely inappropriate manner.’
Furthermore, she noted that Bayman had not pursued formal education but had been employed as a caregiver. Now pregnant, Bayman’s relationship with her former partner has ended.
In sentencing, Recorder Ayesha Siddiqi stated: ‘Regardless of the circumstances concerning her and your partner’s relationship, you had no right to enter her residence or assault her.’
‘This took place in front of her child, late at night, in a location where she was entitled to feel secure.’
Bayman, of Waverley Gardens, Ribbleton, received a suspended 12-month sentence, alongside 25 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, she was issued a restraining order mandating her to maintain distance from her victim.
