Two individuals have been detained following an unlawful rave in Bristol, where nearly 1,000 revelers gathered at an abandoned warehouse.
Authorities stated that those responsible for organizing the gathering ‘acted in a completely irresponsible fashion.’
Residents reported that the event occurred at a vacant Wickes DIY store and the noise reverberated throughout neighborhoods as far as four miles away.
The Avon and Somerset police announced via X on Sunday morning that they were addressing an unlicensed music gathering off Winterstoke Road in Bristol.
The police assured the community they were ‘present to prevent additional individuals from accessing the site and to bring the situation to a safe resolution.’
The music was silenced around 10 am on Sunday morning, with roughly 150 attendees remaining at the location.
Officers encountered ‘unacceptable aggression with objects, including bottles, being hurled at them, which is utterly shameful,’ stated Inspector Gareth Pike.
Law enforcement prevented vehicles from leaving the area and confiscated sound equipment.
Two individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of causing a public nuisance after the event and have subsequently been released on bail.
Inspector Pike remarked: ‘Residents living nearby are understandably frustrated by the disruption caused by this unlicensed music event. We apologize for the impact it has had on them and empathize with their concerns.
‘A substantial policing operation was initiated with specialized teams deployed, including officers who volunteered to forgo their rest days.
‘We also requested support from adjacent forces through a mutual aid request, though they ultimately were not needed after the music was stopped.
‘Public safety must always remain our foremost priority when addressing such occurrences, particularly given the potential hazards and risks associated with a large congregation of individuals in an unfit space.
‘No police service has an endless resources pool. Each officer dispatched to Winterstoke Road today is one who could have been assisting a crime victim but could not due to the selfish choices made by those who arranged and participated in this event.
‘Nonetheless, through diligent efforts across the organization, we have sought to ensure victims receive the level of service they rightfully expect and deserve from the police, even while managing this incident concurrently.
‘We have been collecting evidence throughout our response to this situation to assist in identifying those who committed offenses and will aim to take appropriate action against those involved.’
He indicated that law enforcement would engage with the property owner to preclude any future incidents.
