Ukrainian authorities report that nine of their “drone operators and contractors” were killed by Russian forces after surrendering.
DeepState, a Ukrainian battlefield analysis organization affiliated with Ukraine’s defense ministry, claims that the prisoners of war were executed on October 10 in the Russian region of Kursk, where Kyiv conducted an incursion in August.
Ukraine’s human rights commissioner has called on international organizations to take action.
Dmytro Lubinets mentioned on Telegram that he has sent correspondence to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding this allegation, describing it as “another act of aggression by the Russians”.
Earlier this month, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported that Russian forces had executed 16 captured Ukrainian soldiers in the partially occupied Donetsk region.
There was no prompt reaction from Russian officials.
In other news, the Ukrainian air force announced on Sunday that its air defenses successfully intercepted 31 of the 68 drones launched at Ukraine by Russia throughout the night in the regions of Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Cherkasy.
An additional 36 drones were reported as “lost” over various areas, likely due to electronic jamming.
The air force further stated that ballistic missiles targeted Odesa and Poltava, while Chernihiv and Sumy experienced assaults from guided air missiles. Local officials did not indicate any casualties or injuries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared on Sunday that Russia had deployed approximately 900 guided bombs, over 40 missiles, and 400 drones against Ukraine during the past week.
Mr. Zelenskyy made an appeal on social media platform X to Ukraine’s allies, urging them to “supply the requisite quantity and quality of air defense systems” and “make decisions for our adequate range”.
Kyiv continues to await responses from its Western partners regarding its ongoing requests to utilize the long-range weapons they have provided to target locations on Russian territory.
In Russia, the defense ministry announced that 13 Ukrainian drones were downed over three regions: six in both the Belgorod and Kursk regions, and one in the Bryansk region, all of which border Ukraine.
