Harvey Weinstein has entered a plea of not guilty to a recent sex crime accusation during a judicial session in New York.
The disgraced producer faces charges related to a criminal sexual act. Specific information regarding the new claims, which were first disclosed last week, has not yet been released.
Weinstein‘s most recent court appearance occurs slightly over a week after he underwent urgent heart surgery in a Manhattan hospital to eliminate fluid from his heart and lungs.
In addition to the new accusations, the disgraced producer is also preparing for a retrial regarding his 2020 conviction for rape and sexual assault, which was annulled by New York’s highest court in a significant ruling issued in April.
The 72-year-old was serving a 23-year prison term at that time. He has remained incarcerated due to another conviction received last year for the rape of an actress in Los Angeles in 2013.
The retrial is set to commence on 12 November, although it may face delays due to the recent charge.
Weinstein has consistently asserted that any sexual engagement was consensual.
Meanwhile, in early September, UK prosecutors announced the discontinuation of two indecent assault charges filed in 2022, stating there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
Once regarded as one of the most influential figures in Hollywood, Weinstein co-established the film and television production corporations Miramax and The Weinstein Company, and produced renowned films including the Academy Award-winning Shakespeare In Love, Pulp Fiction, and The Crying Game.
