Presenter Jamie Theakston has disclosed that he is battling cancer.
The Heart Radio DJ shared this news through an Instagram post, indicating that he recently underwent surgery to excise a lesion from his vocal cords.
At 53 years old, he expressed: “The biopsy has confirmed this as Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer.”
“So… I have cancer… but cancer does not have power over me!”
“The outlook is very promising, and I’m anticipating being back with you in October.”
He concluded his post with the message: “Appreciate this day, and when we meet again, I will have an amazing story to share… Jamie x”.
Theakston’s radio co-host, Amanda Holden, shared a photo of them together on Instagram.
She noted: “Our amazing @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer. The prognosis is quite favorable, and he is surrounded by a fantastic support team.”
“Jamie, we love and miss you and eagerly await your return. Together with @sophietheakstonjewellery, your wonderful boys, us, and the entire nation behind you… YOU WILL OVERCOME THIS.”
Presenter and author Carol Vorderman commented on Theakston’s post, stating: “Sending you my best, Jamie. Thank goodness your listeners detected the shift in your voice; everything was discovered early, and you’ll be back making everyone smile very soon.”
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver expressed his support: “Big love, brother. You’ve got this. Sending hugs xxx.”
TV and radio host Lisa Snowdon shared: “Sending heaps of love, Jamie.”
Earlier this month, Theakston mentioned that fans had observed a difference in his voice.
“So – several of you listeners have pointed out that my voice hasn’t seemed right these last few weeks – I owe that to you… got it checked,” he wrote.
“Doctors identified a lesion on my vocal cords that I’ve had removed this weekend.”
“Thanks for all the caring messages – I should be back to normal shortly.”
