A Doncaster man has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for committing a series of sexual offences, including the rape of a child. Lee Grant, 45, of Junction Road, Stainforth, was convicted of 10 out of 11 charges, which included rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault.
Grant’s trial, which concluded at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this year, lasted three weeks. Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, Grant was guilty of several serious offences. These included two counts of raping a girl aged between 13 and 15, five counts of sexually assaulting a woman, one count of raping a woman, and two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. The crimes occurred over decades, with some dating back to between 1993 and 1995 and others occurring within the past five years.
The case came to light following the bravery of one victim, whose decision to report Grant led to a broader investigation and the revelation of multiple victims. The complex investigation, driven by the courage of these survivors, resulted in Grant’s substantial prison sentence.
Detective Constable Leanne Daffern, the lead investigator, praised the victims for their bravery. She stated, “The courage shown by all of Grant’s victims in coming forward has ensured that a dangerous predator is now behind bars. Their willingness to speak out has not only brought justice but also underscores our commitment to tackling sexual abuse and assault.”
Daffern also highlighted the long-lasting impact of Grant’s crimes on his victims. “One victim shared how Grant’s actions had a profound effect on her life, leading to significant mental health challenges. His failure to take responsibility and his insistence on a lengthy trial only added to her suffering.”
The detective emphasized the importance of reporting sexual offences, regardless of when they occurred. “We encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual crime, or who knows someone who has, to come forward. Our dedicated officers are here to offer support and ensure justice is served.”
