Doncaster, August 12 – A woman who crashed her car into an electricity box, sparking a fire and widespread power outages in Bawtry, has been sentenced in court.
Hayley Booth, 32, was found to be nearly three times over the legal drink-drive limit when she was arrested on July 19 on Gainsborough Road. A breathalyser test revealed Booth had 99 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
The incident led to a fire at the crash site and caused a power cut that plunged half of Bawtry’s town centre into darkness. Doncaster South Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant Chris Rogers condemned Booth’s actions, calling her driving “dangerous and foolish.”
“Booth is fortunate that no one was injured due to her reckless decision to drive under the influence,” said Sgt. Rogers. “The collision had serious consequences, and I am pleased that she pleaded guilty and accepted responsibility. Alcohol is a major contributor to fatal and serious collisions in South Yorkshire, and this sentencing serves as a stern reminder that dangerous driving will not be tolerated.”
Booth, Oxford Avenue, Lincoln resident, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on August 12. She was sentenced to a 12-month community order and 160 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, Booth has been banned from driving for two years and two months and must pass an extended driving test before her licence can be reinstated.
Upon her arrest, Hayley Booth was found to have a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit for driving under the influence.
