In a heartbreaking incident, the fiancé of an X-Factor boy band star tragically lost his life after falling from a hotel window just hours after a performance at Doncaster Pride. Olly Marmon, 33, the partner of Union J singer Jaymi Hensley, died in the early hours of Monday morning, only weeks before the couple’s wedding.
Emergency services were called to the Hind Hotel in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night after Olly’s fatal fall. The tragic event occurred just one day after Jaymi performed at Doncaster Pride on Town Fields.
The couple had been together since 2009 and got engaged in 2014. Last September, Jaymi shared a heartfelt post celebrating their anniversary, showing him kissing Olly on the cheek with the caption: “14 years together and 1 year until ‘I do!'”
Olly’s mother, Julie Peacock, expressed her grief in a heartfelt statement: “Words cannot express the devastation and heartbreak I feel over the loss of my beautiful youngest son, Oliver—Olly to his friends. No mother should have to go through this. He was my best friend, and we spoke every day. He called me ‘mummy’ and his ‘guardian angel.’ Oliver was so caring and loving and always put others before himself. He was a talented hairdresser, and more recently, he had taken to working with his stepdad Steve in gardening, which he loved.”
She added, “He touched many lives, and everyone who met him fell in love with him. I will miss my little Oliver so much and don’t know how I will go on without him. This is such a devastating loss for our family, including his brothers Ben and James and sister Alex.”
Olly’s brother Ben also paid tribute to him, saying, “Oliver Marmon, you are my little ray of sunshine. You are my best friend and the light of happiness in every room. You radiate joy and excitement to all around you. You were always so loved by everyone, and I was immensely proud of you.”
Jaymi Hensley, who co-founded Union J in 2011, has yet to make a public statement. The group, which initially started as a trio named Triple J, rose to fame after auditioning for the ninth series of The X Factor. They became Union J when fellow contestant George Shelley joined the group, leading them to finish fifth in the competition.
Doncaster Pride organizers expressed their sorrow over the tragedy. A spokesperson said, “Doncaster Pride is devastated by the news of the death of Jaymi Hensley’s partner, Olly. This tragic accident has left us all heartbroken. Jaymi, the whole of Doncaster sends you our love and sincere condolences.”
