Snoop Dogg to Participate in Olympic Torch Relay in Paris
Renowned American artist Snoop Dogg is set to partake in the final stages of the Olympic torch relay as it makes its way towards the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Calvin Broadus Jr, widely known as Snoop Dogg, is currently in Paris fulfilling the role of a special correspondent for Sky’s partner network NBC.
Excited about the upcoming event, the 52-year-old rapper shared a photo of himself outside the city hall Hotel de Ville with the caption: “U Ready? Paris 2024 Olympics ya digggg.”
His torch-bearing journey will take him through the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, where the local mayor has arranged for a concert by French 2024 Eurovision star Slimane in front of the Basilica Cathedral, marking a significant moment before reaching the Eiffel Tower.
The torch was ignited back in April in Greece at the historical site of ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the games, and has since been carried across France in a relay involving numerous runners.
During the 68th stage of the torch relay, it will pass through various prominent locations like the Olympic Village, the Aquatics Centre, the Stade de France, before culminating at the banks of the Seine.
The spectacular opening ceremony on Friday night will see athletes parading on boats along the central Paris river, adding to the grandeur of the occasion.
Snoop Dogg’s involvement in carrying the Olympic torch follows a tradition where other artists, including American Sean “Diddy” Combs, British musician Dizzee Rascal, and Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am, have played a role in past Olympic games.
Prior to this event, Snoop Dogg showcased his athletic skills by participating in a special exhibition race at the US trials in Oregon last month, completing a 200-meter sprint in an impressive 34.44 seconds.
