Rumors are circulating that a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, the popular 2006 film starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, is in the works.
Aline Brosh McKenna, one of the original screenwriters, is reportedly in negotiations to pen the sequel, which will supposedly focus on Streep‘s character, Miranda Priestly, as she grapples with the challenges faced by print media in the digital era, as per Variety.
The details regarding the return of the original cast for the sequel remain vague, with reports from US news outlet Deadline suggesting that Disney will be the production studio behind the film.
According to Deadline, talks are underway for the original director, David Frankel, and producer, Wendy Finerman, to be involved in the project once again.
Hathaway, known for her role as one of Priestly’s assistants, expressed skepticism in a statement to E! News in March about the possibility of “continuing that story.”
Emily Blunt starred as the other assistant to Priestly in the original film, set in the New York offices of a fictional luxury fashion magazine.
Stanley Tucci also played Priestly’s dedicated deputy in the film.
The original film was adapted from the book of the same title by Lauren Weisberger, a former assistant to Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.
Streep received critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination, for her portrayal of the formidable editor, while the movie marked a breakthrough for both Hathaway and Blunt.
