Investigation Update
Following a report regarding the handling of deceased individuals at a Hull funeral home, a third person has been taken into custody.
Legacy Independent Funeral Directors have been under scrutiny since March when officials discovered 35 bodies and suspected human ashes at a location on Hessle Road in Hull.
Recent Arrests
A 54-year-old female was apprehended on Wednesday under suspicion of involvement in money laundering as part of the ongoing investigation.
Earlier in March, a 46-year-old male and a 23-year-old female were also arrested for offences related to preventing a lawful burial, false representation fraud, and abuse of position. The male suspect, previously on bail, has now additionally been arrested on suspicion of theft and other financial offenses.
Law enforcement officers raided three branches of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire as part of the inquiry.
Families’ Concerns
Since the investigation was made public, numerous families have been left questioning the contents of urns supposedly containing the ashes of their loved ones. Some have even been informed that the ashes they possess are not those of their relatives.
Personal Experience
Richard Shaw, who lost his wife Rita last October, kept unidentified ashes at home after utilizing Legacy Funeral Directors. The police recently contacted him to inform him that they had likely found Rita’s ashes, which were returned to him eight months after her passing.
