A tragic incident occurred in Manchester city center, resulting in the death of a three-year-old girl following a tram accident.
The collision involved a Metrolink tram and a white van on Mosley Street earlier today.
The young girl was a bystander and was not inside either the tram or the van at the time of the incident.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) issued a statement: ‘Emergency personnel are responding to reports regarding a collision involving a tram and a van in the heart of Manchester.
‘Sadly, a three-year-old girl was transported to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.’
‘No individuals have been detained, and investigations are currently ongoing.’
Further details about the specifics of the crash have yet to be disclosed by law enforcement.
A local business employee informed MEN: ‘We heard someone was run over, but we were unaware of what transpired.’

‘That’s truly dreadful.’
Witnesses also shared their reactions, stating: ‘Oh my god, that’s terrible.’
‘I am at a loss for words regarding that.’
‘Oh my god, that is tragic. Just three years old.’
Roads around St Peter’s Square are presently closed, with police indicating that a ‘prolonged closure’ is anticipated.
A representative for GMP Traffic posted on X: ‘Our officers are currently attending a collision involving a tram and another vehicle in the Manchester city center.
‘We are in the process of determining the circumstances; however, we anticipate a lengthy closure of the surrounding streets near St Peters Square.’
Tram services between St Peter’s Square and Piccadilly Gardens are currently suspended.
Significant delays are affecting most other lines throughout the city’s network.
As a result of the travel disruptions, tickets and passes are being accepted on Northern Rail services from Ashton and Manchester Airport to the city center, as well as local bus services.
