The Army Foundation College (AFC) in Harrogate recently conducted a graduation parade for almost 500 junior soldiers, signifying the conclusion of their initial military instruction.
The occasion, graced by proud relatives, was filled with exultant shouts and applause as the graduates advanced onto the parade ground.
As senior officials approached the center, a bagpiper emerged, preceded by the Catterick band. In his speech to family members during the graduation ceremony, Commanding Officer Lt Col Mike Butler expressed a deep sense of pride and accomplishment. These young individuals have demonstrated “dedication and skill,” he stated.
“These young soldiers follow in the footsteps of their predecessors who have completed their training and embarked on fulfilling and impactful careers in service to our esteemed nation,” he stated.
The Army Foundation College (AFC) serves as the sole Junior Entry basic training facility in the country. Here, recruits acquire military proficiencies, resilience, leadership skills, in addition to physical conditioning. They will now proceed to their chosen Regiment or Corps.
In total, there were 469 Junior Soldiers who graduated, represented by Waterloo and Cambrai Companies. This marked a significant “victory” for both the young soldiers and their training instructors.
