A man has been found guilty of killing his daughter after he fatally stabbed her in the heart at their residence in Darlington.
Simon Vickers, 50, was pronounced guilty of murder at Teesside Crown Court on Monday.
He provided inconsistent narratives regarding the events leading up to the moment he thrust a kitchen knife into his daughter Scarlett’s chest last July.
The 14-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Prosecutors asserted that the 11cm wound was too severe to have occurred unintentionally, indicating that the knife must have been “gripped firmly” at the time of the incident.
Vickers contended that the event transpired during a playful family skirmish in the kitchen and was merely a “freak accident”.
