The 24-year-old has lost his place in the hierarchy at Ibrox and seemed close to a loan transfer south.
Both Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland were rumored to be interested in the Welsh international, but Coventry appeared to hold the advantage in securing his services.
However, as per Sky Sports, negotiations regarding the transfer have fallen through. The report indicates that the two clubs could not reach an agreement on the performance bonuses tied to the deal.
During his recent press briefing, Coventry manager Frank Lampard remarked, “I’m not going to comment on that one today. He’s a Rangers player, and I believe it’s courteous not to discuss that matter at this moment.”
Matondo has been part of the Rangers setup since 2022, having transferred from Schalke 04.
While at the German club, he also had loan spells with Stoke City and Cercle Brugge.
He made his professional debut in Germany but developed his skills in the youth academies of Cardiff City and Manchester City.
Matondo was also rumored to have been targeted by Leeds United during the summer transfer window, although those claims were dismissed.
To date, he has participated in 67 matches for Rangers, netting eight goals and providing 12 assists.
