Joker: Folie a Deux heads this year’s Razzie nominations – five years subsequent to the initial film garnering the most nods for the Oscars.
The notorious Golden Raspberry Awards represent the films that its voters consider the most subpar of the year, with the victors always revealed the evening prior to the Academy Awards.
Though Joker acquired 11 Oscar nominations in 2020 – including a best actor accolade for lead Joaquin Phoenix – the sequel was not embraced as warmly.
It is nominated for seven awards this year, including worst film, while Phoenix and his co-star Lady Gaga are also contenders in the acting categories.
Also nominated for worst film are the sci-fi comedy Borderlands, featuring Oscar recipient Cate Blanchett; the critically derided Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson; Francis Ford Coppola’s independently financed labor of love Megalopolis; and Reagan, with Dennis Quaid portraying the former president.
Additional performers recognized for what the Razzies characterizes as “subpar performances in 2024” comprise Jennifer Lopez (Atlas), Kevin Hart (Borderlands), and one of Donald Trump’s recently designated alleged “ambassadors to Hollywood,” Jon Voight.

Voight possesses a “near record” four films (Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow Land, and Strangers) that have been nominated for his potential worst supporting actor recognition, according to the organizers.
Meanwhile, vying for the title of worst director alongside Coppola for Megalopolis are SJ Clarkson (Madame Web), Todd Phillips (Joker: Folie a Deux), Eli Roth (Borderlands), and Jerry Seinfeld (Unfrosted).
The Razzies nominations are unveiled a day prior to the announcement of the Oscar shortlists.
Over 1,200 Razzie members – “film enthusiasts, critics, and journalists” from the United States and more than 20 other nations – cast their votes for the nominees.
The winners will be revealed on Saturday, March 1, with the Oscars ceremony to occur on Sunday, March 2.
