Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, and Sir Rod Stewart are some of the renowned figures expected to perform at a charity event aimed at generating financial support for wildfire relief efforts in the Los Angeles region.
The initiative, dubbed FireAid, is scheduled to occur simultaneously at two different locations on January 30 and will showcase an array of artists who have connections to California, a state currently grappling with severe and devastating wildfires.
Among the performers are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joni Mitchell, Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Nicks, Earth, Wind & Fire, Pink, Sting, Gracie Abrams, Green Day, Jelly Roll, Stephen Stills, Dave Matthews & John Mayer, along with Tate McRae.
Some musicians will take the stage at the Intuit Dome – the home ground for the LA Clippers basketball team – while others will be at the Kia Forum. Both venues are situated within the Inglewood district of the city.
The wildfires in the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and Pasadena regions have resulted in the deaths of at least 27 individuals and have displaced thousands since they erupted on January 8.
As of Friday, firefighting crews are still working to contain nearly 40,000 acres of active wildfires. The most significant of these, the Palisades fire, is currently reported to be 27% under control by officials, while the Eaton fire is 55% contained, according to Sky News’ US affiliate, NBC.
This event has been characterized by Los Angeles’ Fire Chief Kristin Crowley as one of the most severe natural catastrophes in the city’s history.
Millions of dollars in contributions have already been pledged to assist those who have been displaced, including $2.5 million from artist Beyonce, and $15 million from The Walt Disney Company.
