A woman from the United States has been accused of conspiring to murder a shop proprietor in Birmingham, as reported by West Midlands Police.
Aimee Betro, who hails from Wisconsin, has been charged in the United Kingdom following her extradition from Armenia, where she was apprehended last summer.
The 45-year-old is alleged to have participated in a plot from September 2019 to kill the owner of a clothing store and members of his family in the West Midlands area, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Authorities stated that during the incident in South Yardley, a man was threatened with a firearm; however, he managed to escape when the weapon malfunctioned.
Betro is also charged with the illegal possession of a firearm with the intent to instill fear of violence.
She is facing an additional charge concerning the alleged smuggling of ammunition into the UK as part of an investigation by Derbyshire Constabulary.
Betro was brought into Gatwick Airport on Thursday afternoon by officers from the specialized National Extradition Unit of the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Joint International Crime Centre (JICC).
She is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
