The 27-year-old was most recently affiliated with National League club Hartlepool United, who announced Cooke’s departure earlier this summer.
A previous England youth representative, Cooke has played for teams such as Blackpool and Peterborough United and has an impressive background.
Nevertheless, he did not swiftly re-enter the sport and remained available as a free agent.
He has now been signed by his ex-Bradford manager Derek Adams, marking their reunion at Morecambe.
Cooke is entering a relegation struggle, as the Shrimps find themselves in the League Two relegation zone.
After signing a contract that lasts until the season’s conclusion, he remarked: “I know the manager from my time at Bradford; you understand what you’re getting from him. He’s honest, diligent, and that’s the work ethic he expects from his teams.
“He also allows you the freedom to express yourself, particularly in the final third, which is crucial for an attacking midfielder like me.
“I aim to demonstrate my value and, hopefully, contribute to the team with my goals and assists. So here’s hoping I can make an immediate impact.”
