The Duchess of Cambridge undertook an unexpected visit at the Royal Marsden Hospital, a facility where she received her cancer treatments.
Dressed in a long dark tartan overcoat along with a burgundy polo neck and skirt, Kate Middleton expressed her gratitude to the medical staff for their care.
This surprise official solo appearance, which marked the princess’s initial engagement of 2025, was regarded as a significant chapter in Kate’s ‘personal journey.’
It was previously unannounced that Kate, who underwent chemotherapy last year, had been treated at the Marsden.
As she arrived, she remarked: ‘I was just saying, coming in the front entrance here, having made so many discreet, private visits, it’s actually quite pleasing.’
Kate engaged with medical teams in various roles at the hospital’s Chelsea location, spending approximately an hour conversing with staff and interacting with patients.
The visit, deemed ‘immensely moving,’ coincides with the announcement of both the Prince and Princess of Wales as the new Joint Patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
Dame Cally Palmer, CEO of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, stated: ‘We were privileged to host Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales at The Royal Marsden in Chelsea this morning, and we are thrilled that she is now joining His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales as Joint Patrons of our specialized cancer center.

We are privileged to have received Royal Patronage – it serves as a source of inspiration for both our personnel and patients, allowing us to highlight the remarkable efforts our team puts forth daily for patients and their families.
The visit to the Marsden occurs just two days prior to the first anniversary of Kate’s admission to the London Clinic for significant abdominal surgery scheduled for January 16, 2024.

Following the surgery, she endured nearly two weeks in the hospital, and was recovering at home when she received the distressing news of her cancer diagnosis and the necessity to commence chemotherapy.
William characterized 2024 as ‘excruciating’ and likely ‘the most challenging year’ of his existence, as his father, the King, was also diagnosed with the same illness.
In September, Kate revealed that she had completed her chemotherapy regimen and expressed her happiness.
‘As we transition into autumn, I cannot express what a relief it is to finally have concluded my chemotherapy treatment,’ she stated in a video message.
‘My priority now is to do everything necessary to remain cancer-free. Although I have completed chemotherapy, my journey to healing and full recovery will be prolonged, and I must tackle each day as it arrives.’
