A cafe employee recounted the story of how a ‘heroic’ security guard was injured by an angle grinder while thwarting a bicycle thief in east London.
This shocking event occurred just before 3pm on Wednesday on Holywell Lane in Shoreditch, east London.
Jaume Munte, 27, who originally comes from Barcelona, was alerted to a theft attempt involving his bicycle and rushed out of the cafe where he was employed.
He shared with Metro: ‘My coworker said someone was attempting to steal my bike. I hurried outside and saw a man wielding an angle grinder. He had severed the lock.
A nearby security guard had noticed the thief on his CCTV and was already at the location, trying to apprehend the thief who injured him with the angle grinder.
‘The guard seized my bike lock and swung it at the thief. I jumped in as well, and the perpetrator restarted the angle grinder, brandishing it at me.
‘I heard it buzzing, and it was alarming, but by that time, I was fully committed.
‘He then escaped; my response was instinctive as I didn’t want to allow him to flee despite the security guard having already halted his attempt to steal the bike.
‘The security guard is a genuine hero; he didn’t prioritize his own safety; what an admirable character.’
