A man has been accused of harassing Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas, resulting in her experiencing “serious alarm or distress”.
Kyle Shaw, 37, appeared in court last week faced with allegations of sending online communications to the 64-year-old performer over a duration of six years, spanning from 31 August 2017 to 29 November 2023.
The charge states that he purportedly instigated “serious alarm or distress” in the television personality, which had a significant negative impact on her normal daily activities.
Shaw, who also faces a charge for possessing a small quantity of cannabis, did not submit pleas during his appearance at South Sefton Magistrates’ Court last Friday.
A court representative indicated that the matter has been referred to Liverpool Crown Court, where he is anticipated to appear on 31 January.
Shaw, residing in Birkenhead in Wirral, Merseyside, has been granted conditional bail, which includes restrictions prohibiting him from contacting two specified individuals, either directly or indirectly, including through social media platforms.
Ballas, originally from Wallasey, Wirral, has served as the head judge on the BBC show since 2017.
