A man has been apprehended under suspicion of driving under the influence following a collision that resulted in the death of a woman and critical injuries to a two-year-old boy on the M180.
The black Mitsubishi Outlander, in which the three individuals were traveling, veered off the motorway near Barnetby, northern Lincolnshire, and collided with a tree.
Humberside Police arrived at the scene at approximately 11:15 AM on Sunday and took the driver, a 34-year-old man, into custody.
The toddler and the 29-year-old woman were transported to the hospital with ‘life-threatening injuries.’
Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries nearly 24 hours later in the early hours of this morning.
The young boy is currently battling for his life in the hospital, and police have confirmed that he is still in a critical state.
In contrast, the driver sustained minor injuries.
The man was detained on suspicion of exceeding the legal limit, being unfit to drive due to alcohol, and causing grievous bodily harm through reckless driving.
Authorities confirmed that he has since been rearrested on suspicion of causing death by reckless driving.
The man remains in custody while the inquiry into the incident continues.
