On Saturday morning (January 4), shortly after 9 am, emergency responders were alerted to the canal near Atlas Mill Road by a caller who reported spotting a body in the water.
Members of West Yorkshire Police, as well as ambulance and fire services, arrived on the scene and located the body of a woman.
The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was retrieved from the water, and inquiries have been underway at the location.
Detective Inspector Jenny Haigh from Calderdale CID stated, “Our investigation is ongoing following the unfortunate finding of this woman in the water today.
“We have identified her and informed her relatives about this heartbreaking news.
“Currently, there are no indications of suspicious circumstances; however, we urge anyone who witnessed an elderly woman fall into the water in the vicinity or who can provide assistance with our inquiries to reach out to us.
