Luke Littler has advanced to the semi-finals of the World Darts Championship following a 5-2 win at Alexandra Palace.
The 17-year-old, who was the runner-up in last year’s event, prevailed against Nathan Aspinall and is now set to face eighth seed Stephen Bunting on Thursday for a chance to compete in the final.
Littler scored 15 maximums during the encounter as he aims to expand on the 10 titles he has secured in his inaugural year on the PDC Tour.
While speaking to Sky Sports, he remarked: “I believe we both performed exceptionally well there. I’m absolutely thrilled to win.
“The audience was cheering for Nathan; they were rooting for a comeback, but I needed to see it through.
“When the darts are landing, I play with confidence, but now my focus shifts to the semi-finals.”
Bunting triumphed over two-time champion Peter Wright in his quarter-final round.
The other semi-final matchup will feature Michael Van Gerwen against Chris Dobey.
Van Gerwen defeated Callan Rydz 5-3, while Dobey secured a place in the semi-finals for the first time in his career after rallying to beat Gerwyn Price 5-3.
