The jazz artist, who previously received backing from BBC Radio 2 and penned the ‘Yorkshire anthem’ You’ll Never Ride Alone for the 2017 Tour De Yorkshire cycling event, has made the track Autumn Leaves available for pre-save on various digital streaming platforms. This serves as the initial preview of a five-track EP.
Stone expressed to The Yorkshire Post: “The EP, titled Pure Imagination, aims to present a vision of delivering respectful and ‘accessible jazz’ to both seasoned and new listeners.
“These five tracks will be released, followed by an album of original compositions as I make my return to the music scene.
“I genuinely feel grateful to be surrounded by some of the finest musicians in the UK, all of whom are located here in Yorkshire.”
In addition to his music career, Stone also manages Hopkins Butchers in Birkenshaw. He remarked that his comeback to music, after a brief pause, was “always in the plans, but I needed to prioritize my wonderful and lively family, consisting of four children under nine years old.”
He continued: “Since 2020, I have constructed the studio and invited various musicians to come and see it, which led to the formation of The Basement Collective, culminating in our debut performance at Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
“Christian Carlisle from BBC Introducing recently recognized us, and our momentum has truly accelerated since.”
Stone shared that he has reconnected with industry veterans who have responded warmly to their sound, including Jeff Smith from Radio 2 who remarked, ‘Your voice sounds as good as ever,’ and Tina Edwards mentioned, ‘Really lovely recordings of some gorgeous standards.’
Stone indicated that he and the Collective have experienced “multiple indicators suggesting we are on the verge of something significant.”
“We’re capturing the old-school analogue essence, recording with everyone in the same room to encapsulate the authentic vibe of music—no gimmicks, just musicians.”
