The 43-year-old assumed leadership of the Cardinals last December, guiding the club to a 17th-place finish in the National League, which is the fifth tier of English football.
This season, he struggled to elevate the team’s performance, and after suffering a 4-0 loss to Gateshead today (December 14), he has been dismissed with Woking currently positioned at 19th.
Alongside him, his assistant, former Cardiff City and Coventry City defender Ben Turner, has also been let go.
A statement from the club declared: “Woking FC has mutually parted ways with head coach Michael Doyle and assistant Ben Turner with immediate effect.
“We express our gratitude to both for their efforts at the club, especially last season when they played a crucial role in helping avoid relegation. Strategies are being developed to ensure a swift and effective transition moving forward.”
Doyle first made his way to Yorkshire in 2009 when he joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Coventry. He rapidly became an influential player under Simon Grayson and assisted the Whites in securing automatic promotion to the Championship.
After a brief return to Coventry, he made a permanent switch to Sheffield United in January 2011, where he remained for over four years, accumulating more than 200 appearances.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international also played for teams such as Portsmouth and Notts County before retiring from professional football.
