A bus passenger is critically injured following a collision between a double-decker and a railway bridge.
On Saturday evening, the route 4A First Bus service got trapped beneath the bridge on Cook Street situated on the outskirts of Glasgow.
A portion of the roof was ripped away and shattered glass was scattered across the ground.
Four additional passengers are being treated in a hospital, while three others were evaluated and subsequently discharged following the incident on Saturday.
Images captured at the scene close to the O2 Academy seemed to depict passengers trapped inside the bus after the impact.
One witness, Spike Turner, who was seated towards the front, informed the BBC that the driver had made an erroneous turn, crashing ‘directly into the bridge’.
He remarked: ‘I was alright; the woman in front of me may have suffered a concussion. The bridge itself wasn’t high enough to strike anyone’s head, but parts of the bus’s outer structure came down.’
‘The gentleman in the front seat was in a very, very serious condition. He had a significant amount of blood and a large laceration on his forehead.’
First Bus acknowledged that one of its vehicles operating on the 4A route in Glasgow was ‘involved in a bridge strike incident’ around 6pm ‘where a double-decker bus collided with a railway bridge’ on Cook Street.
A representative stated: ‘We are aware of multiple injuries, with one individual transported to the hospital via ambulance.’
‘We have initiated an immediate investigation and are also collaborating with Police Scotland in their inquiries.’
‘Our sympathies are with all those affected by this occurrence.’
The direction in which the bus was traveling remains unknown; however, the 4A route operates between Broomhill and Eaglesham.
