Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has been penalized £600 and issued a five-year non-harassment directive after violating bail agreements.
Hogg, aged 32, entered a guilty plea to a solitary count of domestic abuse against his ex-partner, Gillian Hogg, last month at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
The additional sentencing of the ex-Scotland international for mistreating his former wife over five years has been postponed until January.
Earlier, Hogg acknowledged transgressing bail conditions by persistently reaching out to Gillian Hogg in June.
At Selkirk Sheriff Court on November 4, he pleaded guilty to a single charge of domestic abuse against Mrs. Hogg.
He confessed to yelling and using profanities, monitoring Mrs. Hogg’s whereabouts, and sending her alarming and distressing messages.
The court previously heard that he criticized his ex-partner for ‘not being enjoyable’ after indulging in drinking sprees with friends, and at one point sent more than 200 text messages within a few hours, despite being instructed to cease contact.
Hogg appeared for sentencing at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today.
The court had previously heard how the couple relocated to Exeter in 2019 with their three young children, but Hogg’s conduct began to ‘deteriorate.’
Prosecutor Drew Long informed the court last month that Mrs. Hogg’s family ‘observed a change in her.’
In 2023, the couple moved to Hawick in the Scottish borders, which coincided with the former captain downloading an application to monitor his wife’s phone.
Later that year, Mrs. Hogg made the decision to leave her husband and sought guidance from a domestic abuse organization.
In September 2023, Mr. Hogg inundated his wife with text messages, estimated to exceed 200, leading her to experience a panic attack.
In February of this year, police were dispatched after being alerted to Mr. Hogg ‘shouting and swearing.’
The Montpellier full-back was subsequently detained and placed under a bail order prohibiting him from contacting Mrs. Hogg or entering the family residence.
The former Glasgow Warriors player is currently residing abroad after resuming his rugby career in the summer following a brief retirement.
He and his wife are presently undergoing divorce proceedings.
