Eight individuals have lost their lives following a stabbing incident at a Chinese educational institution, with 17 others sustaining injuries.
Officials stated in a report that a 21-year-old male student is suspected of perpetrating the assault in Yixing City, located in China’s Jiangsu province.
The tragic event occurred at the Wuxi Vocational College of Arts and Technology around 6:30 PM (10:30 AM in the UK) on Saturday, as reported by the Yixing police.
According to the authorities, the suspect – known only by his surname Xu – had graduated from the institution earlier this year and was reportedly frustrated over not receiving his diploma.
The Yixing Public Security Bureau further noted that the student, who also expressed dissatisfaction regarding his internship remuneration, was arrested and has admitted to the offense.
Authorities mentioned that measures were being implemented to provide care for the injured and to investigate the occurrence.
This event follows an earlier incident where 35 individuals lost their lives in the Chinese city of Zhuhai when a driver intentionally drove his vehicle into individuals exercising at a sports center.
Authorities stated that a “number of” pedestrians were struck during the event which transpired on the eve of a biennial People’s Liberation Army exhibition in the southern Chinese metropolis.
A 62-year-old man, referred to solely by his surname Fan, was detained at the site on Monday.
Officials reported he was caught in the vehicle, described as a compact off-road vehicle, as he attempted to escape the scene.
