A toy manufacturer has inadvertently displayed the URL for an adult website on the packaging of Wicked dolls.
Mattel launched dolls representing characters portrayed by British actress Cynthia Erivo and US singer Ariana Grande in the cinematic adaptation of the popular Broadway and West End musical.
However, instead of listing the website for the film, a pornography site sharing the same name as the movie was included on the packaging.
This URL directs users first to a notice indicating that further access is limited to individuals aged 18 and over, with “explicit” content of a “pornographic nature” awaiting them.
Mattel expressed that it “deeply regrets” the mistake, which is “not suitable for children,” and clarified that it intended to refer customers to the WickedMovie.com webpage.
“We sincerely regret this unfortunate mistake and are taking prompt measures to address it,” a statement indicated.
“Parents are advised that the misprinted, incorrect website is not suitable for children.”
“Consumers who currently possess the product are encouraged to discard the packaging or conceal the link and may reach out to Mattel Customer Service for additional information.”
