A courageous shopkeeper utilized a mop to fend off an armed burglar believed to be linked to multiple similar robberies.
CCTV footage disclosed by law enforcement depicts the suspect, clad in a vibrant orange sweater and brandishing a knife, as he seizes the cash register from the store counter.
The register tumbles to the ground, and as the individual, whose features are largely concealed by his hood, attempts to access the drawer, the shopkeeper strikes at him with the mop.
Though the suspect bolted initially, he returned and seemingly took the cash.
This heist transpired at a Best One store in Derby, Derbyshire, on October 5, with police suspecting the individual is also connected to six other thefts in the vicinity.
Two of these incidents occurred in Derby on the same day, all happening between 6pm and 9:32pm.
The suspect was reported to be wearing a bright orange sweater along with black trousers.
The following day, another shop in Derby was targeted, and on October 14, a store in Ilkeston was robbed as well.
This week, two additional incidents occurred in Derby, with the suspect wearing dark apparel along with a navy hood.
Fortunately, no one has sustained physical harm during these robberies.
Derbyshire Police is offering a £1,000 reward to anyone who provides information that significantly aids in the investigation.
Chief Inspector Chris Thornhill remarked, ‘These offenses have understandably created apprehension, and a team of detectives is pursuing various leads to bring the perpetrator to justice.’
‘I know there are individuals within the community who recognize this man— and they should understand that the right action is to come forward.’
‘Fortunately, no individuals have been injured thus far, but anyone willing to arm themselves with a knife poses a serious threat to our community.’
‘We are increasing both our uniformed and undercover patrols in the city, along with armed response teams addressing potential targets as part of their strategic operations.’
‘I urge anyone with any information, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to step forward as soon as possible.’
