This is the breathtaking moment a woman with a stroller narrowly escapes being struck by a vehicle during a high-speed pursuit by police.
Jack Williamson, 29, led officers on a perilous chase around Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on September 14.
Dashboard camera footage captures a woman with a pushchair only feet away from being hit as Williamson sped through a pedestrian-only section.
He drove against the flow of traffic, jumped onto the sidewalk to pass other drivers, and ran red lights in an attempt to avoid arrest.
The woman had to quickly vacate her path as the banned motorist raced through a red light in the town center.
Williamson reached speeds of 70 mph in a 30 mph zone before ditching his car in a pub parking lot and hiding in a shrub by the road.
However, he was discovered by Police Dog Seth and his handler, who followed Williamson’s scent from the driver’s seat to his nearby hiding spot.
Williamson, a disqualified driver who has previously served time for a similar crime, surrendered to the authorities and was apprehended at the scene.
During the interview, he provided no comments but later admitted guilt to charges of dangerous driving, operating a vehicle whilst disqualified, and driving without insurance.
Williamson, of Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire, received a 14-month sentence at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.
Detective Sergeant Clint Gloyn from Nottinghamshire Police stated: ‘This was an outrageous and negligent exhibition of driving that jeopardized the safety of other road users and pedestrians.’
‘At one moment, a woman with a stroller was compelled to take evasive actions as Williamson sped through the pedestrian-only zone.
‘He subsequently concealed himself from our officers and might have remained unnoticed without the assistance of Seth, who was able to trace Williamson’s scent from the vehicle to where he was hiding.
‘By using additional CCTV footage, we were able to convincingly establish that Williamson exited the driver’s seat prior to fleeing the scene.
‘Ultimately, he had little option but to enter a plea of guilty and, as a result, will spend additional time in prison.’
