Scottish humorist Janey Godley has passed away one month after she transitioned to a hospice for palliative care, as confirmed by her representative.
The 63-year-old gained viral recognition through her dubbed parodies of Nicola Sturgeon’s COVID-19 press conferences during the pandemic. Last month, she revealed that she was under palliative care for terminal cancer.
“It is with profound sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our client, Doctor Janey Godley, on 2nd November,” her representative stated on Saturday.
“Janey passed away peacefully at the wonderful Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, surrounded by her cherished ones. Her family, friends, and countless fans will immensely miss her.”
“She will be remembered for her iconic voice overs of Nicola Sturgeon throughout the pandemic, her witty and forthright comedy, and most importantly, for simply being ‘Janey’.”
In September, she halted her autumn tour due to her stage four ovarian cancer, which she had been battling over the past few years; however, it had returned with additional challenges.
At that time, Godley expressed: “It is heartbreaking to learn that I’m confronting end-of-life, but we all reach a conclusion eventually.”
“I want to extend my gratitude to everyone for their support towards the family, particularly [her daughter] Ashley and my husband.”
“The overwhelming encouragement has been extraordinary, and I can’t predict how much time I have left before anyone inquires. I’m not a TikTok.”
“So, I just wish to convey my appreciation for all the love you’ve given me and the support. Cancer impacts one in two individuals, and it has impacted me.”
