The proprietor of a fish and chip shop has received praise for addressing a customer’s inappropriate online review regarding the ‘attractive delivery girl’.
Robinson’s Traditional Fish & Chips located in Wiltshire was presented with a review from a customer named Dan stating: ‘Consistently hot food, always exceptional from Robinsons, and an attractive delivery girl.’
The establishment responded: ‘Thank you for the positive review regarding the food; we will ensure that a male delivers your order from here on out.’
Owner Philip Robinson expressed: ‘While it may seem harmless, we must set conditions pertaining to situations like this.’
Philip, who leads the family-run business, indicated that the shop manager raised the issue regarding the review, which initially appeared on Just Eat before being transferred to Facebook.
Speaking with the BBC, he conveyed his obligation to respond, stating: ‘This ought to be standard practice.
‘I’m certain it was a benign compliment, but we need to impose limitations, and our employees must come to work feeling secure without the risk of encountering harassment.’
He continued: ‘As a small business owner, it’s essential for us to attract returning customers, and I hope this incident hasn’t discouraged him from ordering from us in the future, but… that’s just who I am; if I notice something that may discomfort someone, I’m always prepared to address it.
‘Staff safety is our top priority.’
Philip and his establishment have been lauded for their resolution of the matter.
Fiona Oliver of Wiltshire Community Foundation, a charity dedicated to providing grants to various groups across Wiltshire and Swindon, commended them ‘for defending their employee’.
She added: ‘The effects of such behavior can significantly impact the victims.
‘We must not shy away from discussing these issues and confronting inappropriate behavior directly.’
