A reckless British influencer has tragically lost his life after plummeting from Spain’s tallest bridge.
The 26-year-old digital creator, whose identity remains undisclosed by authorities, reportedly fell from the 630ft Castilla-La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina, located approximately 90 minutes southwest, at 7:15 am on Sunday morning.
He was with a 24-year-old English companion who, though unharmed, is in a ‘state of shock’, as reported by local authorities.
Video evidence from the disaster site revealed police establishing a cordon around the location where the fall occurred.
Emergency services, including both police and firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene following the reports of the incident, but they were unable to save him.
A spokesperson for the National Police in Toledo, which encompasses Talavera de la Reina, stated: ‘He was approximately 40 to 50 meters above ground, about a quarter of the overall height of the bridge when he fell.’
‘The cause of his fall is currently unclear and will be examined by a local court.’
A source involved in the inquiry disclosed: ‘Both the deceased individual and the survivor were climbing without safety harnesses or any protective gear.’
‘A passing motorist alerted the authorities.’
‘The other lad was initially in shock and unable to communicate. He remains quite traumatized but is no longer at the police station.’
He is not facing any criminal charges. It will be up to the local town hall to determine if any sanction will be imposed for his actions.
The Castilla-La Mancha bridge, where the incident took place, is the second tallest bridge in Europe and the highest within Spain.
Investigators are expected to look into whether inclement weather contributed to the incident, as heavy rainfall is believed to have occurred in Talavera de la Reina prior to the event, creating particularly slippery conditions.
It remains uncertain whether the two British nationals had traveled to Spain expressly for the purpose of climbing the bridge for filming, although they were seen using a rental vehicle for their travels.
Local council member Macarena Munoz confirmed the incident and declared that access to the bridge is ‘absolutely prohibited.’
She remarked: ‘We have made it known repeatedly that climbing the bridge is not permissible under any circumstances.’
Talavera de la Reina Town Council affirmed in a statement: ‘The Councillor for Citizen Safety, Macarena Munoz, has verified the death of a young man after he fell from the Castilla-La Mancha bridge.’
‘He was a 26-year-old Englishman who fell while attempting to climb the aforementioned bridge, which the councillor has clearly stated is entirely forbidden and that we have reiterated numerous times cannot take place under any circumstances.’
‘The young man was joined by another 24-year-old Englishman.’
‘As far as we can ascertain, they traveled to Talavera specifically to climb the bridge and generate social media content, which has led to this unfortunate and tragic outcome.’
‘The judge and forensic doctor have already permitted the transfer of the body, which has been moved to the funeral home.’
A post-mortem examination has yet to be conducted.
