An eleven-year-old girl who endured the devastating loss of her mother, father, and two sisters in a vehicular accident this summer has resumed her education, supported by over £400,000 that has been collected for her aid.
Poppie Morgan-Roller became an orphan after her family’s vehicle ignited following a frontal crash with a motorcycle near Wakefield, leading to the fatalities of six individuals, including her two younger siblings.
On the day of the accident, Shane Roller, Shannen Morgan, and their daughters Lillie and Rubie had gone out for a stroll, while Poppie opted to play at a friend’s home instead of accompanying them.
Following the heart-wrenching news of the accident, the community rallied around her, contributing hundreds of thousands of pounds in a GoFundMe initiative.
Paul Hepple, a family associate who initiated the fundraising page, shared an update yesterday, acknowledging 12 weeks since the tragic incident: ‘Poppie is coping as well as one could expect given the circumstances.
‘She has courageously returned to school and although she experienced initial apprehension, she is gradually adapting. Therapy sessions provided at her school are assisting her in processing her grief.
‘Poppie and her Aunt, Faye, have also received essential assistance from Brake, the road safety charity, which has been pivotal in guiding them through the legal matters and offering support.’
Paul mentioned that the £408,207 raised has not yet been utilized and will be placed into a trust fund managed by Poppie’s Aunt Faye.
On the day of the incident, he had been hosting Poppie and her aunt, and they were just about to enjoy Sunday dinner when they received an urgent call.
Mr. Hepple previously related: ‘Her mother reached out to us requesting if we could look after Poppie since she did not wish to join the outing.
‘So, we took care of Poppie as she was best friends with our daughter. They were having a great time together. The tragedy occurred on their return home.
‘We were enjoying Sunday dinner as a family, with Poppie’s aunt present, along with Poppie. Then, a phone call came through, and she had to leave abruptly to find out what had happened.’
He characterized Poppie as a ‘wonderful’ child whose family was well-loved in the neighborhood. ‘They were consistently sociable and frequently attended gatherings,’ he noted.
Poppie’s aunt Faye will serve as her legal guardian, as stated by him.
Poppie’s grandfather, Graham Roller, fondly remembered his son, partner, and granddaughters, expressing that they constituted an ‘incredible family’.
He remarked: ‘On Sunday, we lost a part of our family, Shane Roller, Shannen Morgan, and two beautiful granddaughters in a tragic car accident.
‘Shane was not merely a son but a fantastic father with a heart of gold. Shannen, our daughter-in-law, was full of humor and an exceptional mother; they cherished their little family immensely.
‘They will be sorely missed by all who knew them, but they will eternally remain in our hearts and thoughts.
‘Fly high and stay safe together. Love you more than words can convey.’
