Elon Musk has refuted speculation of a romantic relationship with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni following the circulation of an image showcasing the two gazing affectionately at one another.
The billionaire innovator and Italy’s inaugural female prime minister were captured in a warm embrace at a formal gala this week, where Musk honored Ms. Meloni with the Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council think tank.
The snapshot from the lavish occasion in New York generated considerable buzz online, with one individual commenting: “We all know what transpired next…”
However, Musk, 53, responded on X, clarifying: “I was there with my mother. There is no romantic involvement with PM Meloni in any capacity.”
Ms. Meloni, 47, had allegedly invited Musk to be the one to present her with the award at Monday’s ceremony, while the tech mogul made two trips to Italy last year to engage with the Italian leader—in June and December.
The tech visionary lauded the Brothers of Italy leader during the award presentation, stating she was “someone who embodies even greater beauty within than outwardly.”
He also characterized her as “genuine, truthful, and considerate,” as reported by Politico.
The right-leaning politician reciprocated the flattery, labeling Musk a “precious genius.”

Ms. Meloni, who has been in power since October 2022, ended her long-term relationship with television journalist Andrea Giambruno this past year.
The former couple shares an eight-year-old daughter.
Musk’s relationship history includes a marriage to writer Justine Wilson and two unions with Westworld actress Talulah Riley. He has also been involved with actress Amber Heard and musician Grimes.
